Children Services is responsible for evaluating and investigating reports of physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect, and dependency issues involving children. All allegations of abuse are screened, and then determined whether the an investigation is warranted. When in doubt you are encouraged to err on the side of caution and call. Reports are handled 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by calling the hotline at 419-668-5281 or by calling your local law enforcement agency by dialing 911 in an emergency.

A child may be removed immediately if there is imminent risk, but removal is not always permanent. There is a thorough process for removing a child from their home and the final decision is made by a judge or magistrate. Placing a child with a relative is preferred, then a foster home or a juvenile treatment facility may be explored. A parent can regain custody of their child by following through on a case plan to improve the situation which may involve counseling and education.

Children Services wants children to be safe.
